BACK IN THE GOOD OLD DAYS...
Before Blainie played in the Burgers of Beef, she played in a band called Deb, BUT before Deb, there was The Standstill. Formed in 1989, The Standstill consisted of : Blainie on bass; Danielle Osmond on guitar ; Caroline Dawe on guitar ; Mark Hewitt on vocals and Deidre Werle on drums. Although The Standstill never actually played a gig, they did have a stylish range of t-shirts all lovingly created with a silk screen in Caroline's parents house.
Their repertoire included bad versions of The Church's "Under the Milky Way", Aztec Camera's "Somewhere in My Heart" and the Clash's "Should I Stay or Should I Go?".
In 1992, due to musical differences, Mark Hewitt left the band, and Blainie took over the vocal duties. In 1993, they played their one and only gig at the Chelsea tavern in Nedlands. Their set comprised of the aforementioned Clash and Aztec Camera songs, as well as "So Lonely" by the Police. Needless to say, they didn't do any of these songs justice. The Standstill unfortunatley came to an end sometime in 1993.
Now here is some fun for everyone. In the photo below see if you can pick which one is me. (Use your cursor to highlight the area directly under the photo to reveal the answer.)
Well, how'd you go? Pretty tricky stuff, eh? If you said "that idiot in the middle with a Pseudo Echo t-shirt has to be Blainie ", then you'd be correct. I wore that t-shirt especially for the photo and if I remember correctly I got in trouble. (but it was sooooo worth it!!!)
