TELLIN IT HOW IT IS
Hi and welcome to Chad Tells It How It Is. It is my little rant about whatever is on my mind at the time I type. Be prepared, cos here I go.
Two things about nurses (I am a Registered Nurse) is that they love to be nurses (some do) and they love to tell it how it is. Especially to other nurses. Everybody has their bloody opinion and they are not shy about telling you just what mistakes they think you're making.
Now I have chosen (for reasons of my own) to go straight into psychiatric nursing without consolidating my "surgical clinical skills" in a teaching hospital post-graduate clinical rotation. Now a lot of people I have come across have told me (over the coarse of an hour telling me how it is) that I am making a mistake and that I'll obviously want to have a go at surgical nursing later and that I'm a big fool for going straight in. Well I can tell you there is no way in the next 3 years I'm ever gonna have a crack at the bloody hospital wards. So as far as going into one now I'd rather eat a piece of poo.
The best advice I have ever got was from a community mental health nurse who was working in Bunbury (Fun-bury) when she said to me "Chad, people are gonna tell you how it is in this game every day of your life. So just do whatever the hell you want and you'll always be happy. Don't become a jaded nurse like the people who wish they'd made different decisions and then don't do anything about changing their situations. You can always retrain and if you feel empowered to change your life when you feel like you need to, then you'll always be happy with yourself."
Bugger I just actually used the word empowered on the Burgers website. Sorry reader.
So there, bloody well stop telling me how it is. That's my job. |
