Juggle till you drop

Where's your other wheel?

JUGGLE TILL YOU DROP
Here's my take on juggling. Now for starters (and without trying to sound too cynical or jaded), by and large, everybody thinks that they're a goddam comedian. When practicing juggling in public places, there are a couple things that I find utterly gob-smacking about many people.Namely, they all make exactly the same comments and they think they're being funny/interesting.

Some examples:
"Do you enjoy juggling your balls do you? (tee hee)" - many variations on this one
"Is that hard?" - well, is whatever you do hard?
"I saw this guy on TV and he ..." - good for you
"Looks like some one stole the other half of your bike" - said to unicyclist
"You're tall" / "I like the tall ones" - said to some one on stilts
"Are you a clown?" / [sing circus music]

So if you see a good juggler around the place, here's some advice;
• Like any practitioner of a given field, they are aware of what is possible and what has been done - everyone has seen some one juggle a chainsaw, fire, a bowling ball or whatever on TV. It's often not really that difficult either, so jugglers don't need to hear about it.
• Think before making any obvious remarks because some one else has probably already said it. Thinking without talking is highly under-rated.
• If you saw some one playing a bass, would you go up and say that they only have four strings? Then why tell a unicyclist that they are missing a wheel? They are probably well aware of the fact that standard bicycles have two wheels whilst unicycles have one.
• Juggling isn't all about how many objects you can do. For example, getting some 3 ball (or even 1 ball) tricks together might be a lot more work than learning to juggle 5.
• Juggling is a skill sometimes used by clowns just as maths is a skill sometimes employed by accountants, but you wouldn't say that all mathematicians are therefore accountants.

Ok, that's the end of my rant about that.

Juggling's great, though. You should find out more about it and there's way more to it than meets the eye. I am currently particularly interested in numbers juggling (doing lots), 4 ball site-swapping (possibly the subject of a future page of fun), diabolo and unicycle. I have also been known to do some acrobalance in my time as well.
